Speaker: Khun Akadet Nakkabunlung
10 am - 11 a.m.
Jim Thompson House
Khun Akadet Nakkabunlung, founder of the Sbunnga Museum in Chiangmai, will be the featured speaker at the next Thai Textile Society lecture scheduled for September 24. An avid textile collector, Khun Akadet has spent more than 20 years building his impressive collection of more than 6,000 pieces of antique textiles.
Typical pieces in his collection include intricately made cloth woven for daily use as well as royal costumes made with silver and gold threads. They come from places such as Chiangmai and other parts of Northern Thailand, Laos, Burma and Sipsongpanna in southwestern China.
During the recent floods in Chiangmai, part of the Sbunnga Museum was swamped and some pieces in Khun Akadet’s collection were damaged. However, the majority escaped harm, and Khun Adadet will select some of the most unique pieces for display during his Bangkok lecture. A limited number of pieces will be available for purchase, he said.
Khun Akadet also plans to show a short video during the lecture in order to offer a glimpse of his valuable collection, which is so large that displays must be rotated every six months. Please join us on September 24 for a most informative program.
For the convenience of Thai Textile Society members, this lecture is being held on a Saturday. The program begins at 10 a.m. at the Jim Thompson House, 6 Soi Kasemsan 2, Rama 1 Road, Bangkok (BTS: National Stadium station)
Suggested donation: B100 for members, B200 for non-members.
