Laos is a country where many different ethnic groups of people live, each with its distinct textile tradition.

Khun Udom Riantrakool will show us some of his rare Lao textiles with an emphasis on those of the Phuthai people, from both Laos and northeast Thailand, where many of them have settled.  He will compare their textiles to those of the Dai people, the Lue and other groups who reside on both sides of the Mekong River. The textiles will include shoulder cloths which are typical to Laos, ceremonial textiles and those for everyday use.  All these textiles are between 50 and 150 years old.
