This talk introduces “Wool-Silk” – A new Thai woven textile. This exclusive textile is totally hand-crafted from the world’s finest and softest natural fibres — Ultra-fine wool and Thai silk. The wool is incredibly fine of 12 to 15 micron diameter and is grown by specially selected Merino sheep on Casalana farm in Western Australia. The silk comes from Thailand, renowned for the silk of exceptional quality. Casalana is owned by Drs John and Nui Milton who combine their background in agricultural research with best practice farming methods to manage their Merino sheep to exacting ethical and environmental standards. We recognized that Casalana very fine wool could add a new dimension to the Thai silk textile so we engaged Pan Mai, one of the Thai silk cottage industry groups, to totally hand process Casalana wool from fleece to fabric in a marriage with Thai silk.

The Thai Textile Society would like to thank the Siam Society for their support with this Lecture
