Old Banners & Pha Sins of The Tai People

Saturday, 17 September 2011

The Tai are a diverse group with a rich textile heritage.  Khun Somchai Sakulkoo will share with us part of his rich collection of Tai banners and pha sins that are of some antiquity.  He will give us the background of the development of the Tai pha sin from the narrow pieces that were woven for the slender Asian figure in the past to the larger pieces of present day.  He will concentrate on weavings of the Tai Lue, Thai Yuan and Tai Daeng.  Khun Somchai has deep knowledge of Thai and Lao textiles and has been active in the collectible textile field for many years. He continues to exhibit his collection on textile related occasions.
