The Thai Textile Society invites textile lovers to a  Collectors Corner at the Siam Society, Thursday, 8 March 2012 at  10:00 am.   Textile Lovers will have the opportunity to view old and rare textiles from Myanmar, not often on public display in Thailand.  Dr. Anucha Thirakanont, a long-time collector and expert on Southeast Asian textiles, will bring his collection of luntaya, the “100 spool” design, also known as acheik and will tell us about the history of these magnificent pieces. These most prized silk cloths are in interlocking horizontal weft pattern of tapestry weave in which many colors were woven into the warp with 100-200 small shuttles.  Today the acheik-luntaya are some of the most sought after textiles by collectors, and good pieces are getting harder to find. Although not shown in Thailand, some of these pieces were displayed at a Southeast Asian textile exhibition in Finland few years ago.
