Let Pictures Tell The Story

A talk by M.R. Romaniyachat Kaekiriya and

M.R. Damrongdej Diskul

HRH Prince Damrong Rajanubhab was one of the ablest sons of Rama IV who helped their brother Rama V (King Chulalongkorn) in bringing the kingdom into the modern era.
Prince Damrong served
at different times as the Minister of Interior and the Minister of Education. A self-taught historian he worked tirelessly in creating the first museum in the country. He is known throughout the kingdom as the Father of Thai History. His interest and intellectual curiosity in history led him to travel to different places, especially to neighboring countries. As a scholar Prince Damrong enjoyed recording his travels by writing journals, the most note-worthy is the one concerning his trips to Burma, which has been praised by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn as one of the best travel guides to Burma.

Apart from this, Prince Damrong also wrote books about his journeys to Cambodia and Indonesia. On each of these trips he took extensive pictures, which are now kept at the Damrong Library.

M.R. Romaniyachat Kaekiriya is the Advisor to the President of Dhurakij Pundit University and M.R. Damrongdej Diskul (grandson of Prince Damrong) is a director of the Diskul Foundation. To commemorate the 150 birth anniversary of Prince Damrong they will show in this presentation pictures from Prince Damrong’s journeys to Cambodia, Burma and Indonesia, many of which have never before been released to the public.
