A Lecture Presentation:  Meredith Strauss MFA

Saturday, 19 January 2013

Meredith Strauss’ work is a celebration of pattern and structure derived from ordinary objects. Elaborating on ideals of the Bauhaus style that no distinction should be made between fine art and practical craft, Strauss creates a harmony between functional objects and the artistic means employed in their recreation.

Trained as traditional loom weaver, Strauss invented a technique incorporating unconventional materials in her work. She had many corporate commissions as well as national and international exhibitions. This cross-disciplinary collaboration between textiles and architecture suggests a myriad of possibilities and the possibility to liberate the design thought process from preconceived and pre-existing architectonic imagery.

Strauss lives in Los Angeles where she teaches at Woodbury University in Burbank, and will be on a brief visit with her students to Thailand.
