The Exhibit Satavasa Pha Boran Tai
(A Century of Tai Textiles) in Ayutthaya
Thursday, 8 August 2013
Leader: Khun Chomporn Dhanesnittaya
In the morning we will visit Wat Klang Bang Kaew where the library, built during the reign of Rama III, housed palm leaf manuscripts from the Ayutthaya Period. The manuscripts, now in the Temple museum, are wrapped with beautiful textiles especially woven for this purpose.
After lunch, we will head to Satavasa Pha Boran Tai at the Support Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand in Ayutthaya. The Tai people of Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and southern China wove the clothes and textiles on
exhibit, all from the private collection of historian Paothong Thongchua.
