A talk by Susan Conway
Magic is common to all cultures. In some it is widely believed and practiced, in other societies barely perceptible. This lecture focuses on complex Tai magical-religious belief systems and their representation in 18th and 19th century manuscripts, sculpture and textiles.
Dr. Susan Conway teaches at the Centre of Southeast Asian Studies, SOAS, London. "Susan has worked in Thailand and the Shan States since the 1980s. She has curated exhibitions on Thai textiles and dress in the UK, USA and Thailand. Details of her books, paintings and lecture programmes are available on her web site susanconway.com
