DAY TRIP to Bang Sai and Ayutthaya - Private Ikat Collection
BANG SAI AND AYUTTHAYA Private Ikat Collection
Tuesday, 12 July 2016
The Thai Textile Society is pleased to organize a visit to view the exhibition of ikat weavings, a private collection owned by the famed textile designer and collector, Khun Paothong Thongchua. The exhibition of the collection which took him one year to prepare showcases ikat textiles from Southeast Asia, India, Japan, Central America, and Central Asia. The over 200 pieces include textiles from regions that were yet unaffected by outside influence such as the Li of Southwest China, as well as a number of fine saris, some of the famous India Patola weave. The exhibition is displayed at the Bang Sai Arts & Craft Centre, Ayutthaya Province. After the exhibition we will proceed to Ayutthaya where we will have lunch and visit two temples, Wat Choeng Tha and Wat Putthasaiwan with mural paintings that display textiles of that era.
