In November 2015 Geri Forkner went on a two-week journey to Peru that focused on weaving villages in the Peruvian highlands, visiting weaving communities and interacting with the weavers. The tour benefited these communities affiliated with the Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco which was started by Nilda Challanaupa 20 years ago.  Her goal was to revitalize the traditional weaving techniques and materials that date back to pre-Columbian times.  The slide presentation will take viewers to five of Nilda's highly successful weaving villages and give an insight into ancient Incan culture that includes their traditional weaving. The speaker who will be coming from the United States will bring textiles representative of the techniques, tools, and yarns dyed with local Peruvian natural dyes.
