Lecture: Rupert Smith Antique Rugs From Tibet

The Thai Textile Society, in association with The Siam Society, invites members and the public to attend a lecture on “Antique Rugs from Tibet” by Rupert Smith. The lecture will be held at The Siam Society on Thursday, July 2 at 10:30 a.m.

Rupert Smith has been dealing in antique rugs and textiles from Tibet since first going there in 1986. He has taken part in international art fairs in London, New York, Hong Kong and San Francisco. Mr. Smith has lectured at the London Rug and Textile Society and many US textile societies since 1996 when the Wangden Natural Dying Project was first started. Wangden is located in a remote valley in central Tibet.

Mr. Smith has published an article on Wangden Meditation Weaving in the on-line journal Asian Art.com.

He has a house in Nepal and visits Bangkok regularly on his way to Hong Kong and Lhasa.

Admission will be 100 baht for members of the Thai Textile Society and The Siam Society and 200 baht for non-members.
