Tapestry Weaves of Southeast Asia - A Lecture Presentation with Sylvia Fraser Lu
This technique reached mainland Southeast Asia primarily through trading and tributary contacts with China. The greatest practitioners of this technique today in mainland Southeast Asia are the Tai Lue and the Burmese. Muslim traders from the southern Philippines and outer Indonesian archipelagos, active in the China textile trade, spread the technique to a number of remote locations throughout island Southeast Asia where tapestry weave come to be used in different ways as supplementary decoration on their textiles.
