Collectors Corner UNDER THE SPELL OF SILK
For the very first time Dr. Tom Vitayakul displayed and talked about his private collection of textiles. The selection of photos are of Thai and Khmer silks from southern Isaan and Cambodia, displaying mainly Ikat and some brocade. This collection ranges from old or vintage to new and reproduced pieces of old patterns and motifs.
The Thai Textile Society appreciates Dr. Tom Vitayakul displaying of his collection to our Members The Society is dedicated to the study and appreciation of textiles, with particular emphasis on the textiles of Thailand and Southeast Asia
Dr. Vitayakul started using hand-woven textiles as clothing for both comfort and style. Beside the beauty of silk, he fell in love with the craftsmanship, meaning and stories of many of the pieces. He began building his collection as wearable art and woven paintings.
